Bilingual Education
Our English Program, at SCJ, aims to develop both linguistic competence and academic language skills, ensuring that students can communicate effectively, comprehend, and analyze texts across various subject areas. This prepares them to become global citizens with strong language proficiency.
Our program is characterized by the following key aspects:
Alignment with Standards and Frameworks Our curriculum aligns with both the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This ensures a structured language learning progression, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge relevant to their grade level.
Integrated Curriculum and Methodology By integrating CEFR and CCSS, our program provides a cohesive and comprehensive approach to language learning. Structured instruction and differentiated learning activities address the diverse needs and learning styles of our students. Additionally, platforms such as IXL and MyOn support individualized instruction and progress monitoring effectively at different grade levels.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring We implement a variety of formative, summative, standardized, and alternative assessments to monitor student progress effectively. Our quarterly assessment breakdown emphasizes self-assessment and goal-setting, empowering students to take ownership of their learning. Additionally, standardized tests administered in various grades help us track progress and make data-driven decisions to enhance learning outcomes.
Interdisciplinary Skills and Values We emphasize critical skills such as reading for information, drawing conclusions, and effective communication. Our program also fosters assertive communication, flexibility, problem-solving, teamwork, and empathy, ensuring the well-rounded development of our students.
Engaging and Active Learning Activities Our program incorporates teacher-led and student-centered activities, including read-alouds, “show and tell” sessions, collaborative tasks, hands-on projects, cultural activities, and more. These activities encourage active engagement, creativity, autonomy, and motivation among students.
Our English program has been designed to equip students with the linguistic and academic skills necessary for success in an increasingly globalized world. Through a structured curriculum, engaging learning experiences, and a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary skills and values, we ensure that students not only master the language but also develop critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in their communication.
By integrating international standards and fostering an active, student-centered learning environment, we are committed to helping each student reach their full potential. We take great pride in preparing them to thrive academically, professionally, and personally in an interconnected world.
